Over the years, human trafficking has become a trendy social justice topic, lending to social curiosity in concerned citizens and clinicians wanting to help individuals who have experienced this trauma. Yet, many well-meaning individuals, including mental health professionals, lack understanding on dissociation as it relates to traumatic incidents and end up causing harm vulnerable individuals. Jessa’s current research is situated around understanding the mental health implications survivors of trafficking experience in an effort to help clinicians provide competent treatment.
